MoonsideMedia: We Are A Carbon Free Company

We are a carbon neutral company and have been since we started. This covers everything we do.

We are pleased to be working with a respected environmental organisation like the Woodland Trust, which we believe provides transparency and reliability in carbon offsetting. Moonside Media understands the environmental impact of its business and its employees and is committed to drastically reducing this impact into the future.

The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity dedicated to the protection and creation of native woods. Since 1972 the Woodland Trust has planted more than 4.5 million trees to create new woods, and to buffer those which are most fragile. It now owns more than 1,100 sites throughout the UK, covering 47,000 acres. Ancient woodland is the UK’s richest wildlife habitat and 110 of the Trust’s woods are designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest, the UK’s finest examples of wildlife habitats.

The UK lags way behind the rest of Europe in terms of tree cover and our most precious wildlife habitats – ancient woodland – covers just 2% of the country. Creating new, and extending ancient, woodland habitats is vital for the survival of our most precious species to enable them to better adapt to the effects of climate change.

As a business Moonside Media already take steps to tackle carbon emissions at source, however, the Woodland Trust offers us an additional option to offset remaining CO2 emissions through tree planting. Tree planting is one of the most common forms of carbon offset. Trees are essential to life on our planet – they absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. They can absorb the atmospheric carbon as part of the process of photosynthesis of trees and plants, which enables them to grow. Through this process, carbon dioxide is converted into stored carbon, and this is why trees are sometimes referred to as ‘carbon sinks’. By taking this carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, trees clean the air.

In addition to the environmental benefits of absorbing atmospheric carbon as they grow and mature, woodland provides a rich and important habitat valued by wildlife and people alike. By developing accessible woodland near to where people live, in both urban and rural areas, society will enjoy many of the other benefits that woodland offers.
